Every year on or around October 4, Christians throughout the world celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with prayers for creation and a blessing of the animals. Services in the United States currently occur in 47 states and the District of Columbia. We will have our Blessing of Pets October 4th at 6:00 pm. St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals & environment could be viewed as the original Earth Day advocate. Francis’ devotion to God was expressed through his love for all of God’s creation. St. Francis cared for the poor and sick, he preached sermons to animals, and praised all creatures as brothers and sisters under God.
Giving our Time, Talents, & Treasure The annual Fall Time & Talent letters and forms were mailed out this week to all registered parishioners. We will have parishioners speaking at each Mass, with Time being the topic on September 15th/16th and Talent being the topic on September 29th/30th. Each parishioner is asked to complete the blue Time and Talent brochure inserted in the mailing and return them on the weekend of September 29th/30th. You may place them in the collection basket or the basket in the vestibule. Please pray about this and consider how you can give back to God what he has given you in the form of your special talents. Every one of us has been uniquely blessed. God calls us to be his prudent servants.

Even the most independent among us, if fortunate to live long enough, may experience a decline in mobilityor health that can strip away our independence and diminish the quality of our lives. Great advances in medicine have extended our average life expectancy to a record high of 78.7 years. Living longer means more years spent in the struggles that accompany old age. Add to that the increase in geographic mobility of our families and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone. For millions of Americans, Meals on Wheels is literally the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence. Research proves that when seniors have the right support, they gain greater quality of life, need fewer hospital stays and live longer. With your donation you help make sure that seniors are not forgotten. If you want to take part by preparing or deliver the Meals every Friday at 9 am, please call Fern Bergeron 706-885-9388.
